ABSTRACT

Turkey stepped up its supply of weapons to Islamist insurgents when the US failed to intervene after Syria used chemical weapons in August 2013. The Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MIT) established an infrastructure for supporting jihadists, ranging from military cooperation and weapons transfers to logistical support, financial assistance, and the provision of medical services. In addition to Turkey’s support to Islamist groups in Syria, it supported Al Qaeda in Libya and Hamas in Palestine.2
