ABSTRACT
Every time a piece of music changes shape, for example from an acoustic event to an electronic representation, from a demo tape to a finished recording, or from a radio single to a movie soundtrack, a mix is needed to present what is good about the music in the best possible way. A good mix communicates an emotional message to the listener, and the craft of mixing is about making musically motivated technical decisions to make that happen.
