ABSTRACT

The main goal of the political propaganda in the primary school textbooks of the People's Poland was to present the new post–World War II Polish realities in the most positive way. It included joy at the end of the World War II, the new borders of Poland, and the first reforms introduced by the communist authorities: the agrarian reform, the nationalization of industry and the enhancement of social care. The new geopolitical situation in Poland was determined by its new borders and new alliances. Immediately after World War II, these were the issues of the utmost interest and concern to the whole Polish society, but the textbooks promoted only one attitude: unconditional acceptance of the post-war changes. The political system of the People's Republic of Poland—called a "people's democracy" was, according to the textbooks, the best and the most just in Polish history. It fulfilled the dreams of the once-oppressed classes.
