ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the catastrophic role which Nicholas II played in the life of the Russian State. Naturally, as the result of the characteristics, Nicholas II was very far from sharing the convictions and the ideas professed during his reign by society in general in Russia. His ideas were at a very wide angle indeed from those of the Russian intelligentsia. There was an abyss between them which could not be crossed. With almost any other member of that dynasty on the throne, Russia had a better chance of escaping the catastrophe which overtook her. Nicholas II had absolutely no sense of reality; his was a fantastic mind, ready at every moment to believe every political fairy-tale. On his dethronement Nicholas II became the redeemer of his faults and of the monarchy. Those characteristics which, while he was in power, brought about a catastrophe, then, on the contrary, worked for good. With dignity and calmness Nicholas II awaited death.
