ABSTRACT

The objective of this exercise is to focus on those little things that need doing in life and how they can detract from what the participant really wants to do in terms of the experiences or activities that bring his or her life meaning, value and deep satisfaction. An example of this is the person who spends all day busy with small domestic tasks to avoid getting on and writing the novel he or she has been wanting to write for the last six years. The aphorism “Creating is more important than cleaning!” (Sue Fish, principal child psychotherapist, Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, personal communication, 1989) is useful to remember here.
