ABSTRACT

This exercise is designed to enable participants to focus on and celebrate what they are proud of about themselves, specifically not achievements such as awards or qualifications, but achievements in terms of who they are as a person. It might be kindness, commitment, courage or sticking power, for example. To give thought time to this can be all too infrequent because of childhood messages about not being self-centred, arrogant or boastful. Yet self-worth is a key part of resilience. Participants may be people who really helped someone or were successful at something or dared to try something new.
