ABSTRACT

Data security tools can be generally grouped into PC defense oriented and network defense oriented, with the former concerned with data created or stored at the PC and the latter concerned with data in transit traveling through networks. Disaster recovery pertains to emergency situations where an organization's operational files are damaged beyond acceptable use. File shredding is electronic process where a file is written over several times with several patterns so that, according to the e-shredder developer, the file is absolutely destroyed. File encryption is an essential practice in maintaining file security, but having a password for each document may be counterproductive. Anti-loggers are software specifically designed to detect presence of logging code. Although typical antivirus software do detect many logging modes, dedicated anti-logging software can better serve this very important security need. Rootkit is a spyware-malware that hackers insert in an application or in the operating system to create a trapdoor. Anti-rootkits examine each new program installation for spyware.
