ABSTRACT

This chapter provides brief histories about pharmacy organizations, explains what they do, and discusses the kinds of organizations and why they are important. It also discusses the importance of pharmacists joining pharmacy organizations and several pharmacy organizations. Pharmacy organizations can be divided into five types: practitioner organizations, educational organizations, special interest organizations, trade organizations, pharmacy technician organizations, and other organizations. Each pharmacy organization has a constitution, bylaws, a statement of beliefs, a mission statement, and sometimes a vision statement to govern the organization. Membership is important for pharmacists to belong to pharmacy organizations. Members of pharmacy organizations were also satisfied in dealing with patients and had status and pride as pharmacists. Most pharmacists do not have the time nor the financial resources to attend to the current conflicts or opportunities facing the profession. Pharmacy organizations can help in this area.
