ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case study of Joanne and Nick. Joanne had reported to Nick’s paediatrician that her already-too-thin son complained about being dizzy and constipated. After his paediatrician’s medical evaluation for dizziness and constipation, Nick went further underground with his food restriction. The doctor’s visit came too close to a discovery of the underlying eating disorder. Partly, Nick hid because he never wanted to let his parents down. Nick’s parents tried to get him to eat more of the foods recommended by the paediatrician. Normally an honest kid, Nick was habitually lying and conniving to cover up weight-management efforts. Nick trusted Dr. David and remembered he found him to be helpful when he was treated for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Nick was surprised that Dr. David wanted to tell his parents about the vomiting, although it seemed like Deja vu from the incident with his friends and the guidance counsellor.
