ABSTRACT
Currently, Japanese students learn in elementary school that the Constitution of Japan stipulates that the emperor is the symbol of the state and that all of the people are equal under the law. There is a well-known quote in Japan which states, “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator” (Independence Hall Association, 1999–2017, para. 2). This derives from the Declaration of Independence of the United States.
