ABSTRACT

I conclude this book by summarising the key issues presented, as above all the importance of the value of personal autonomy as well as the ways it comes to the fore in interpersonal communication, the notion of personhood in East Greenland based on the ‘open’ person. Moreover, I sketch some broader implications of my findings for the contemporary societal context in East Greenland. Touching upon themes such as the communication between Iivit and Danish residents and a number of social problems, I call for a need to better integrate the value of protecting other people’s personal autonomy and integrity into the workings of social, political, and economic institutions that currently govern a ‘modern’ East Greenland.
