ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the problems of the upsetting of circular cylinders in the conditions of steady-state creep taking into account and disregarding the formation of a barrel. The optimum deformation programme is determined. This program ensures the upsetting of the cylinder to the required value over a specific period of time with the minimum possible energy loss. Theoretical examination of the upsetting of the cylinders in creep taking into account the formation of the barrel is supplemented by appropriate tests. Experimental and theoretical studies of the processes, including the upsetting of cylinders in different conditions, have been carried out by many Russian and foreign scientists. The monograph presents the solution of problems of the upsetting of solid and hollow cylinders in the creep conditions in different loading programs. S.A. Mashekov published the results of comparative tests of cylindrical and helical specimens in upsetting.
