ABSTRACT

Personal development is important in career development and job hunting; it is about understanding ourselves. It can help make better choices; it can assist when facing challenges. Chapter 9 outlines psychological techniques like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to handle the ways we think and process issues. Examining ourselves via methods such as Myers-Briggs® (MBTI)® personality surveys or STRONG Interest Inventory® (SII)® help identify our personality and work preferences as well as areas that interest us. Online career assessment surveys can assist in identifying graduates wider capabilities and linking them to job types. Job searching can involve difficult choices. Three decision making tools are outlined:

SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis.

Decision balance analysis.

Force field analysis.
