ABSTRACT

The use of critical race theory with our analyses of policies related to affirmative action in college admissions highlights the ways in which race is embedded in both policymaking processes and the subsequent policy implementations. In this chapter, we present a coding technique to contemplate the role of race and racism in social policies and the discourse about those policies, which is based on our studies of the Texas Top Ten Percent Plan, which attempted to provide an affirmative action alternative to diversify higher education institutions in Texas.
