ABSTRACT

The previous chapters discussed how to choose among the various alternatives for protection methods as well as the appropriate repair methods and the material usually used in repairs. This previous discussion was from a technical point of view. However, in this chapter, the comparison of different alternatives will be discussed from an economic point of view to assist in decision-making procedures. Therefore, the appropriate method will be used to compare alternatives to clarify the economic factors that affect the method of calculation.

As stated earlier, the lifetime of maintenance or protection of a structure must be taken into consideration, so the required time to perform the maintenance will be discussed clearly as the first principle to calculate this time. A practical example illustrating the comparison between different alternatives will also be applied. In this example, differences between the methods of protection for different structural economies will be detailed.
