ABSTRACT

Energy considerations in India as well as the whole world have become more pertinent over the last few decade, with a considerable amount of subsidy and resources being accorded to the systems in India, because of a massive requirement followed by an increasing home and industrial consumption rate. This chapter suggests a modus operandi for optimal sizing of standalone PV/WG systems using genetic algorithms. Uniting the necessary working metrics, a full workup of the solar patterns is provided including the irradiation losses, system losses, and the performance ratios of the system. An analysis is done on existing solar power plants and their perceived costs and the impact of varying power features and parameters over time was assessed. Finally, we developed predictive systems for the same using artificial neural networks to derive fitness function that can then be operated upon to get the absolute minimum cost of any stand-alone PV/WG hybrid system.
