ABSTRACT

This chapter considers there to be general coachee characteristics that increase the likelihood that coachees will derive benefit from coaching, no matter which approaches to coaching their coaches practice, and specific characteristics that increase the likelihood that coachees will derive benefit from rational emotive behavioural coaching (REBC). It also considers general characteristics that are helpful for coachees to have in any approach to coaching. Coachees who derive the most from REBC are likely to find particular value in the flexible and non-extreme attitudes that REBC regards as being at the heart of healthy responses to life's adversities. REBC has several tenets that are fairly philosophical in nature, and it is of value if coachees have an interest in and inclination to derive the most out of philosophical discussion. Coachees who, with their coach's help, are able to apply the general principles of REBC to specific situations in their everyday lives will be good candidates for REBC.
