ABSTRACT

Effective rational emotive behavioural coaching (REBC) is based on several agreed understandings between coaches and coachees. Disagreement over any aspect of REBC will pose a threat to the coaching alliance and therefore needs to be identified, discussed and resolved. A coach's main task in the objective alliance domain of development-focused rational emotive behavioural coaching (DF-REBC) is to help their coachees set as many development-based objectives as they wish in a variety of life areas. In the goal-alliance domain of problem-focused rational emotive behavioural coaching (PF-REBC), coaches should help their coachees set a goal with regard to each of the problems for which they are seeking help. With a practical problem, coaches need to help their coachees be specific about what would constitute the solution to the problem. With an emotional problem, coaches need to help their coachees deal with the relevant adversity constructively, both emotionally and behaviourally.
