ABSTRACT

The major purpose of development-focused rational emotive behavioural coaching (DF-REBC) is to help coachees to get the most out of themselves in whichever life area they nominate. Skilled rational emotive behaviour (REB) coaches are therefore able to marry the specific and evidential with the general and experiential when helping coachees to set development-based objectives (DBOs). In helping a coachee to select a DBO, it is important that in doing so the coach refers to any such principle or principles that may have resonated with the coachee. A value is the coachee's judgment of what is important or meaningful in their life or anything that gives purpose to that life. The coachee may select an intrinsic, meaningful DBO that expresses a valued healthy principle of living that is enjoyable to pursue, but if the person cannot integrate this objective into their life, there is no point in helping them to pursue it.
