ABSTRACT
Coastlines and oceans around the world are
slowly turning into landscapes of extinction.
Diverse studies have detailed the dire worldwide
situation of marine resources, which are largely
exploited under open access conditions, and
heavily affected by land based activities (Hauck,
1998; Sweijd and Hauck, 1998; Gordon and
Cook, 2000; Naylor et al., 2000; Garcia et al.,
2003; Myers and Worm, 2003).
