ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance of kosher/halal training offered by kosher/halal businesses and certifiers. Training is not only important for generating knowledge of kosher/halal in businesses, it is also an opportunity for networking between businesses and certifiers. Training is also about enhancing kosher/halal skills in businesses with specific regard to communication, team building and leadership. Some businesses may be hesitant to participate in such training because they find it unnecessary or costly. However, many businesses find that training provides them with knowledge they could not have acquired otherwise, and that in some cases trainers from certification bodies also act as inspectors/auditors. More specifically, training can help businesses comply with issues such as standards, production, preparation, handling and storage of kosher/halal ingredients and products.
