ABSTRACT

Tertiary stakeholders include all people, departments and organizations indirectly impacted by the behavior of the leader. Dealing with the interests of different stakeholders and weighing which should predominate is an essential part of being a leader. If leaders place significant emphasis on self-actualization, they will put their own interests ahead of their stakeholders, pursuing their own ambitions and dreams over and above the needs of the people around them. Sovereign leaders know where they are going, have set a course and only need others to come along on the voyage to "man the oars". Leaders who place more emphasis on service to stakeholders than on their self-actualization have a servant leadership style. Some servant leaders can be so invisible or diplomatic that it is unclear what they contribute and what they stand for, triggering many followers to have low confidence in them.
