ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a glimpse into the future and presents a selection of key trends in the industry that have the potential to significantly change the way we work, live and interact. It analyzes several main skills employers will need in order to be successful in workplace. The fashion industry is notoriously slow compared to other industries such as the consumer goods industry in adapting new skills, ways of working and leadership development. Virtual reality is a Newly Emerging Technologies (NET) that presents a huge opportunity in its application to the fashion industry. Firms investing in NET are under pressure to ensure that their workforce keeps pace with technology. For firms with a global footprint, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced technology and its impact will be more susceptible in emerging economies where the infrastructure is less established to inhibit the roll-out of AI-led activities such as automated robots.
