ABSTRACT

This chapter shows the rate of growth of the GNP from 1962 to 1977. It presents a clearer picture of the economy by a sectoral distribution of GDP. The whole aggregate of the GDP is divided into two larger sectors: the oil sector and the non-oil sector. This method of sectoral distribution will reveal more accurately the nature of the Kuwaiti economy but it will also show the composition of the labour force, where a special dualistic nature of manpower is revealed. In addition to the structural dualism of the economy in general and the labour force in particular, the Kuwaiti economy is characterized by some kinds of surplus and gap. The first gap is between government revenue and government expenditure, resulting in a surplus for almost every year. The second gap is in the international trade balance, where there is always a surplus in the balance of payments.
