ABSTRACT

Whilst a literature exists on the possible strategic role of both QM and HRM, there is limited evidence of studies which consider their integration, in particular where organizations choose to work with external quality standards and awards. The large number of such standards and awards available is confusing, and so informed choices are needed to ensure that correct decisions are made around which standards and awards to work with, what resources should be allocated, how projects will be delivered, and so on. This field is open to much more focused research to enhance knowledge and understanding about how these two specialisms can work more collaboratively. Integrating QM and BE activities with an overall strategy on business improvement will have implications for the application of best employment practices. In this final chapter, we review some of the overarching factors which might need to be taken into account, and offer a checklist for action to help with making choices about which route to follow. An argument is made for taking an integrated approach to working with these standards to ensure not only best use of resources, but also successful outcomes to any projects of this kind.
