ABSTRACT

Underlying the Rules of the Game are some important recurring themes of successful change efforts. If game players have been involved in other change efforts, these themes may seem like old friends. If this is their first change effort, revisit these themes often. They will help them keep their feet firmly planted on the road to successful change. Players' group's ability to effectively manage your relationships with one another and with their allies and opponents is fundamental to the strength of the effort and the development of strategies and tactics. The various levels of interest and involvement of participants in the effort must be recognized, legitimized, and assessed to help them understand their strengths, risks, and opportunities. It is often the unseen, rather than the apparent, obstacles that undermine change efforts. Successful change depends on a series of decisions by those who have sufficient power to create something new.
