ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses therapeutic work together in the form of a risk management plan, the New Life Safety Plan. It also discusses the concept of relapse prevention from a strengths-focused point of view, focusing on approach goals, but incorporating avoidance goals as well. The chapter outlines risk reduction and risk management strategies from a strengths-focused perspective. In strengths-based treatment programmes, the term 'relapse prevention plan' is often replaced with a more hopeful, positive term which embraces the holistic concept of the individual building a new life or having a fresh start. Constructing a New Life Safety Plan with George was not going to be easy, as he had few resources. His confidence was low, given the stigma of his sexual offending. A New Life Safety Plan or a similar risk management plan called by another name is, on one level, just words on a page.
