ABSTRACT

Hypnosis is not a stand-alone process but is utilized along with other treatment modalities to improve the patient's health. The use of hypnosis should only be considered after a thorough medical evaluation is first conducted and if its use is felt appropriate in conjunction with other therapies. The chapter presents the several cases demonstrate some possible hypnotherapeutic approaches, selected from the many others which might also be employed. These cases are meant to stimulate interest and to motivate an even greater acceleration of the use in medicine of hypnosis and hypnotic techniques. Hypnosis was effective for the dream enactment, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder as well as for the sleepwalking, the non- REM parasomnia. Hypnosis is a valuable, effective technique that can improve certain sleep disorders. It is safe, self-empowering, and relatively inexpensive. Hypnosis has a unique role in treating sleep disorders. The above cases would not have been effectively treated without its use.
