ABSTRACT

During the last decades, vast changes in the global economy have increased substantially the level of competition not only between companies but also between nations. In addition, in the mid 90s an increase in stress-related disorders was observed in individuals who worked in schools, and other public sector entities, due to the fact that competition increased when private companies entered into these industries, thus increasing the level of job insecurity in occupations that until then were considered to be safe. Due to the globalization of the market and the evident job insecurity, more people are forced in a way to work as freelancers. In this chapter, the current situation evident in the modern work environment was presented with an aim to see where people stand now and what people need to consider in order to manage their everyday lives, succeed at work and protect their well-being.
