ABSTRACT

In this chapter a presentation of various coping strategies and techniques that will help one to deal effectively with stress and to increase one's resilience levels is made. Coping effectiveness is the result of the combination of genes, previous learning and the availability of individual coping skills. Some widely recognized behaviours that can help one to increase levels of resilience, decrease levels of stress and make one feel that one has the ultimate control of oneself are to: synchronization and development of brain, becoming more positive, taking it slow, fostering emotional intelligence (EI), active/genuine listening, expressing gratitude, thinking before acting, inducing motive to oneself, social support, injecting some humour into life, being physically active, adopting a healthy lifestyle, becoming mindful, relaxation exercise, yoga, meditation. Hence, in this chapter, the author has presented a number of ways through which one can change one's mindset and lifestyle and become more tolerant of stress.
