ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some information about the history of yoga, the structure of a typical yoga class, and related themes of yoga philosophy. From this foundation, it introduces the Three-Pronged Model conceptualized by the author. Every case can be viewed through the lens of this model, thus presenting the professional and even the layperson with an easy and safe step-by-step case conceptualization. The model begins with a focus on grounding practices, and then – if, and only if, appropriate – moves to either practices that increase vitality and build energy (brahmana) or practices that are soothing and calming (langhana).
