ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the starting point for any client: grounding, stabilizing practices. The professional should always start here, and make sure that the client is present and grounded before moving forward. Furthermore, this category of practices would serve as the entirety of the practice in two cases: for clients who experience two sets of symptoms, one of which needs energizing and the other calming practices, and for clients who experience some level of dissociation. The chapter provides an easy-to-follow system of grounding practices that are appropriate and beneficial for all conditions, be they mood, anxiety, trauma, or psychotic or personality disorders.
