ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at ways in which action research communities (ARCs) can be extended. As with any type of professional learning community, a legitimate challenge is that of trying to put things in place that will help to sustain and grow the impact of the learning community. One of the worst things that can happen is to start off the implementation of any learning community with a full head of steam, only to see the interest, passion, and commitment wane and potentially disappear in years two or three. Capitalizing on the need to keep a focus on why the work of the action research learning community may be necessary, it is critical to ensure that the actions, on the parts of both leadership and participants in the ARC, are continuously and consistently aligned with the words that are guiding the work.
