ABSTRACT

The psychic vampire featured in the TV show, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, where the characters known as the Rowdy Three are called 'Psychic Vampires' because they feed on psychic energy. The label 'psychic vampire' was popularized in the 1960s by Anton LaVey and his Church of Satan. He used the term to mean a spiritually or emotionally weak person who drains vital energy from others. There has been an occult revival in the Soviet Union, and the terms 'energy vampire' and 'psychic vampire' have become popular there. Sigmund Freud did offer an account of how children turned into sadists, but no one has explained the causes of passive-aggressive behaviour properly. Its roots are said to be complex and deep-seated but remain vague. Passive-aggressive individuals are unreasonable to deal with, uncomfortable to be around, rarely express their hostility directly and usually cannot stop doing it.
