ABSTRACT

The animal feed industry has been reported to be a setting with significant bio-contamination and some of the microorganisms involved in respiratory problems have been detected in this environment, namely several gram-negative bacteria whose toxic effects are derived from the inhalation of endotoxins (Awad 2003; Kim et al. 2009). Also the presence of fungal load in feed production (Halstensen et al. 2013; Viegas et al., 2016a), has been considered a factor contributing significantly to these symptoms (Swan & Crook 1998). Moreover, some studies in last years suggested pig farm activities associated with a variety of respiratory symptoms among farmers (Heederik et al. 1991).
