ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of the book. This book seeks to study the pedagogy of teachers/lecturers/deliverers of programmes/courses that are related to work. It focuses on the complex issue of how teachers/lecturers/deliverers use their know-how in their delivery of work-related programmes. The complexity surrounds the need for these teachers to have the disciplinary and wider elements relating to knowledge of the relevant work practices, which involves the learning of the type of know-how and its application in their work practices. The book deals with the concept of 'dual professionalism' in response to Simon's notions of pedagogy and knowledge. It then reviews the relevant literature on occupational know-how, and investigates the relevant conceptual applications of this type of know-how and offers a conceptual framework of occupational pedagogy for teachers of this 'dual professionalism'.
