ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the discussion surrounding the acquisition of theoretical knowledge for pedagogic and occupational practices. The sources of know-how may be derived from the disciplines, occupational practices, practical skills, "at the coal face", "innovative flexibility", and life experiences. The chapter also focuses on the occupational programmes at the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) level. It uses analysed empirical data from participants with expertise in the areas of art and design (specifically in fashion and textiles and painting and printmaking), equine studies, gas services, health and social care and travel and tourism (specifically in the airline industry). The rationale for choosing the work-related programmes at this TVET academic level is because the courses cover the conventionally named vocational and education and training. These types of programme often reside in the further education sector in the English education system where most of the vocational programmes are found.
