The chapter outlines Toyota's cultural beliefs and values and their effects on Toyota's purpose and presents Toyota's philosophies and guiding principles. According to Shinji Furukawa, Manager of International resources division of Toyota, some basic tenets and philosophies have not been translated into English before. The chapter also presents these philosophies as translated by the Toyota's Japanese employees, without modifications. The evolutions and changes in these philosophies reveal Toyota's thinking and adjustments over time. The Toyoda precept of 1935 incorporates a number of important objectives. Some of these objectives are means objectives whereas others are behavioral guidelines for Toyota employees. Twenty-eight years later, in 1963, Toyota published what it called the 'Toyota Corporate Policy'. In 1989, Toyota distributed a new corporate policy to its associates worldwide.
