ABSTRACT

Outlines are easy to change, and they give one a visual guide to where he/she are heading. It also makes for a good de facto checklist of concrete steps to take to accomplish one's goals. This chapter explores these suggestions on how to get ready to write for the public in greater detail. One might have other ideas, or find that they are not all right for his/her. The chapter presents five steps to help one get ready to write: reading is crucial; rediscover one's creative side; engage one's creative side; choose one's audience; and organize one's ideas. Just like good writing often comes from rewriting, being organized also means knowing when to reorganize. Perhaps the biggest part of getting ready to go public is believing that one have something worthwhile to say. Think about all of the blowhards who regularly publish with complete disregard for facts or logic and rely on emotion and opinion.
