ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 describes the on-the-ground outcomes of Swedish prohibitionist drugs legislation and policy, as well as the results of the understandings and discourses that inform these laws and policies on the lives and experiences of people who use drugs in Sweden. It principally focusses on demonstrating the impacts that Swedish prohibitionism has had on the wellbeing and health of people who use drugs. The chapter then discusses the effects of social exclusion and a lack of holistic service provision. The chapter focuses heavily on the actions of the Swedish police, who perpetrate abuse and violence against people who use drugs.
