ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author want to base our “thinking” on what one might consider to be a selfish concept for teachers. He emphasis on student learning and focus on the benefits of critical thinking for teachers by asking the following question: “How does critical thinking help me, the teacher, in the classroom?” Dr. Daniel Willingham, a noted cognitive psychologist, wrote a book that he think every teacher should read and then give to every parent to read. It is appropriately called Why Students Don’t Like School. Dr. Willingham is a sly one though. He brings up an interesting conundrum. Humans are horrible thinkers, but as it turns out, people actually like thinking even though they are not great at it. On one hand, people hate habits and boring routine, but they are awesome at making them, and on the other hand, they are terrible at thinking but they enjoy it.
