ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on film and TV production and post-production, when all visual and sound elements, including music, need to be finalized and fixed. It highlights how developments in digital filming and editing technology, moving away from linear workflows to non-linear and flexible processes, can affect music planning and the placement of music in films and other linear media. The visual pace of digitally edited films has increased as a direct result of digital technology being used. Digital camera and editing technologies have revolutionized the way footage is shot and edited, giving project owners and editors an unprecedented degree of creative freedom and flexibility. The chapter addresses digital sound recording, editing, and dubbing, where music meets dialogue and sound effects and presents less emphasis on licensed music. The use of photo-realistic computer-generated imagery has a longstanding tradition in filmmaking and is, of course, a key selling point for video games.
