ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the author's growing up, education, sporting and occupational histories. In the beginning, he started his life in Sydney, Australia, the land of many dangerous critters such as koalas and kangaroos. As he was just finishing primary school, his family moved to Hong Kong following his father's medical profession. Throughout his high-school career, team sports were abhorrent to him. Instead, he was encouraged to derive recreation from playing piano. This focus on musical talents also gave him a good excuse when people tried to convince him to come play ball. The time for change came when the author flew over to the United Kingdom to begin his tertiary education as transporting his piano overseas posed particular problems. Following the start of his gainful employment, his recreational interests also changed. He loved the sporting activities he had pursued in university but they required extensive time commitments.
