ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the emotional aspects as a result of the crash. Unfortunately the return of the author's emotions was not without consequences. Now that he had been tutored to feel things again, he got to experience the full spectrum of emotions. He was told initially that he may never be able to see properly out of one eye, so he should make peace with half the light of the world. He was also softly prepared for the reality that he might never walk again, so he should practise his wheelchair skills. He later nicknamed such a forlorn situation when he would feel so broken "The Bleakness". The Bleakness could be triggered by ubiquitous happy moments of everyday life. He was hypersensitive to common-day events that might cause a relapse. In his search for a solution, he discovered that one particular emotion could provide something to blot out The Bleakness and give him direction.
