The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world’s largest not-for-profit project management professional organization. It was founded in 1969 to provide the means for “project managers to associate, share information, and discuss common problems.” 1 Now, 48 years later, PMI has over 473,037 members and is helping to advance collaboration, education, and research for over 2.9 million working professionals in 209 countries and territories; globally there are 283 chartered and 12 potential chapters. 2

It began as a dinner in early 1969 among three men at the Three Threes Restaurant, a small, intimate gathering place just a few blocks from City Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
