ABSTRACT
This chapter sets the historical situation of grassroots Muslim charities in Europe and how they differ from both traditional mainstream bodies and faith-based organisations started by previous generations. After drawing a portrait of the different charities in the study sample, their actions and their volunteers, the chapter details the particular phenomenological approach to the fieldwork.
