ABSTRACT

The Introduction of Da‘wa and Other Religions begins with a global panorama of the modern resurgence of da‘wa. Then, it defines the book’s central concepts – da‘wa, inter-religious relations, modernity, bottom-up and top-down da‘wa, da‘wa modernities, religious marketplace, disestablishment – and summarizes in advance its central arguments. It prepares the reader for the book’s two parts: a global history of da‘wa in Part I and two Indian case studies of da‘wa in Part II.
