ABSTRACT

What are successful commons? This chapter provides a new three-tier definition of success in the commons. Not only ecological resilience, but also a fair distribution of benefits and resilience towards other forms of appropriation or management are put forward as requirements for successful commons. This chapter tests whether inclusive commons could become and remain successful in the long term.
