ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 provides a description of a multitude of methods through which to share and display the games, songs, dances, and instrumental work discussed in the second and third chapters, as well as a description of how each of the World Music Pedagogy dimensions might apply within the context of a performance. After describing the ways in which each of the five dimensions of World Music Pedagogy can contribute to successful performances, the chapter focuses on specific, practical aspects of performances of world music in elementary school. Topics include selecting repertoire, designing concerts for large numbers of students, creating successful performance venues, and considering the aesthetic and ethical compromises that must be made in order to move musical products to new performance contexts. After an interview with a children’s choral director who describes her experience with world music in a traditional choral setting, the chapter provides sample programs for performance.
