ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I detail my work with Sport for Water, a volunteer-based water aid organization in Vancouver, Canada. I volunteered for the Sport for Water Society pre-race exposition, interviewed organizers, participants, people with Sport for Water Society’s partner organization, Hope for Water International, and the members of the board at Sport for Water Society, and I ran the half marathon. I seek to understand how an organization can help build a community of globally conscious, healthy individuals while also helping to build water systems in Ethiopia and other Global South countries. I do so by considering the interviews, analyzing documents, and reflecting on my experience in conjunction with the sport charity literature and the goals of the organization as depicted by the founder.
